Tuesday, June 23, 2009: Kerikeri, Whangaroa, Kapowairua, Cape Reinga

Clock Kerikeri where we left we walk to see Stone Store one of the oldest building in New Zealand manufactured stone in 1835.

We also visited the Rewa's Village is a reconstructed Maori village before the arrival of missionaries. To visit? A terminal marked with over $ 2 entry. Still a matter of confidence ....

I also tried to race Pukeko of my mini-zoom digital camera!

We then began the long road to Cape Reinga in the far north of the island!
On the way we stopped at Whangaroa to climb Mont Saint Paul. Yes I insist on "getting ahead" because the climb is very steep and full of mud slides! Much uphill or downhill, not easy! I miss me wallow quite a few times, especially with my little Converse not made for that ... Finally
journey was well worth it! At the top of the cliff the view is breathtaking ! Wonderful!

We then began the real journey of the tip! Near the end we stopped at Kapowairua, Spirits Bay beach because it was sacred to Maori.
Another splendid beach! And surprise, no sand here, but tons of pieces of seashell polished by the sea! Really fun, I had never seen it!

It then goes on Cape Reinga because it's getting late, 4:30, and night falls at 5am!
So we will at the very end of the island to see the sunset! It's just magical .... Here, at the foot of the Cape that meet the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea, suddenly two opposing currents meet!
For Maori It is here that the spirit of a person just after his death, their passage to another world.

Both streams!

orange is taken up our road (all gravel =!) To stop at the campsite for the night Waitiki ($ 9 instead of 18! Not bad!).
When we went to eat in the communal kitchen, a man comes and asks me if I'm going to prepare the meal. I say yes. He opens the fridge and told me he had already eaten and he had prepared a lot so that I can use if I want ... .. I can not believe it !!!!!!
